Huge Accomplishments

You are capable of so much more than you think

It’s amazing how much you can achieve in a short time when you really put your mind to it.  This applies to all manner of things, whether it’s spring cleaning your house, landscaping your garden or improving your fitness.  Sometimes, before we start something it can seem a big task, perhaps even near impossible, but the reality it, that once we get started, things can happen quite quickly and with good momentum, we can make huge strides in a short time.

So what does it take to make an accomplishment like that?  First of all, a good plan.  And it’s great to notice that you don’t need to know every step of the plan before you start, you just need to be clear on the first step, and once you take that one, the next will become clear.

You also need strong motivation and determination.  If you kind of sort of want to do it, but not really, it’s not going to happen.  When you decide, decide.  Make it your focus and give it the time and energy that’s needed, whether that is planning or researching to find out what’s needed, or mucking in and getting the job done.

Then all that’s really needed is to take the first step.  I know someone who contemplated renovating his house for months but did nothing.  Then one night he decided.  He followed through on this by picking up a sledgehammer and bashing a hole in the wall.  From there there was only one way to go and that was forwards. 

After that, I recommend noticing.  Noticing each step you’ve taken and the effect that has had, noticing how each step you take contributes towards the whole, and noticing the accumulation of steps taken and how that creates something really awesome.  Sometimes too, you’ll notice positive effects you hadn’t even anticipated.  Things that weren’t the point of what you were doing, but are positive consequences none the less. 

It’s amazing how satisfying it is when we put our minds to something, take action and achieve what we set out to.  It gives us a tremendous sense of pride and makes us feel stronger.  It can be incredibly beneficial to us in a multitude of ways, and it’s therefore well worth deciding what you want to accomplish, developing a plan, then going out and making it happen.
